While it has been rumored for a while now that career renaissance man Mickey Rourke would be playing Conan the Barbarian’s father Corin in the upcoming 2011 take on Conan, it appears that negotiations for Rourke to star have fallen apart.
That’s alright though, because Marcus Nispel’s film has already accumulated a pretty good genre cast including Avatar baddie Stephen Lang as the villainous Khalar Singh and the relatively unproven-but-cool-looking Jason Momoa of Stargate fame as the leading man.
The news is that filming on Conan is scheduled to begin this week with a new actor in place as Corin: Ron Perlman. No stranger to genre films, Perlman is notorious for being a strongman in Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy, Mutant Chronicles and even as Conan himself in some videogame and animated properties. I’m sure he’ll be a great choice for the role.
What do you think? Are you excited at all about Conan or could you care less? I’m sensing a general attitude of apathy toward the project, but I think it might be kind of cool. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Perlman is a great choice, better in my opinion than the currently overused Rourke. With the right make-up he and Momoa look more like father/son than Rourke/Momoa would have. I also think Perlman is underrated as an actor ,due to his unique looks, and a better human being than Rourke.
