Hey! Your green screen is showing!

At this year’s Comic Con, acclaimed director James Cameron announced that Friday August 21st would be Avatar Day in honor of a 15-minute in-theater preview of his mammoth sci-fi film Avatar. In addition to the 3D preview, the trailer for the film along with the Avatar video game will also hit the interwebs with the kind of fury normally reserved for a conservative at a town hall meeting discussing universal health care. Oh, and some toys will be released. It’s like an early Christmas for nerds and the socially handicapped.

So we know what’s in store on this so-called Avatar Day, but how do we catch the 15-minute preview? According the LA Times, on Monday, August 17th, fanboys will need to visit the official Avatar website to access the free tickets. At 1:00PM MST, online visitors will have the ability to grab free tickets via a simple click of the ol’ mouse. It’s first come, first serve, so get there early. Traffic is expected to be heavy.

The 15-minute preview of Avatar will be shown only on IMAX screens. Here in Colorado, you have more than a few to choose from. Please note, the preview may not be playing at all IMAX theaters.

Here’s a listing of Colorado’s IMAX screens sans The Denver Museum of Science & Nature:
