France’s Latest Horror Attention-Grabber ‘In Their Sleep’ Has Impressive Pedigree
French Horror Sets Its Bloody Sights ‘In Their Sleep’
Like any restless film lover, my favorite films vary from day to day. Of course, the standards are always present (A Clockwork Orange, Apocalypse Now, the original Dawn of the Dead), but the number one slot changes from time to time. Same goes for my more-current lists, such as the best films of the last decade. I’m a slightly overboard fan of horror films, so, depending on the given day, my answer could veer toward a genre bias, and in those particular instances I’m likely to cite 2007’s gory French showstopper Inside as tops. The affection I cradle for the film, written and directed by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, is worthy of its own column, but, needless to say, give the film a look if you’ve yet to do so; you’ll be hard-pressed to find a recent horror flick as brutal yet well-made. It’s one of the many reason why I’m now a French horror film fanboy, and proud of that fact.
Why the random Inside-angled tangent? Because the film’s producers, Caroline and Eric du Potet, have directed a new picture, called In Their Sleep, and their association with the aforementioned shocker grants the couple immediate notice. Here’s the official synopsis:
“One year after her teenage son’s death, Sarah’s life is in pieces. Then late one night, her car accidentally hits Arthur, a young man the same age as her boy, who suddenly emerges out of the forest and onto the road. Wounded and frightened, he is running from a mysterious assailant, hunting him down after Arthur caught him red handed in the act of burglary. Sarah sympathizes with him, taking him in, only to be tracked down by the burglar whose murderous rage towards Arthur forces her to take action. Unbeknownst to Sarah, things aren’t quite the way they seem…but by the time she finally realizes, it is too late to turn back…”
Those familiar with Inside might sense a bit of plot familiarity, but that’s not a bad thing. There’s no trailer available yet for In Their Sleep, nor a release date of any kind, though a group of stills have made their way onto Bloody Disgusting, as well as a fresh one sheet. I’ll be keeping close tabs on this one, and I’ll keep you Reel Loopers up to date, as well.
