No Kathryn Bigelow, Robert Rodriguez For New ‘Planet of the Apes’
‘Caesar’ finds problems instead of directors
Since nobody wants to take a crack at directing the upcoming Planet of the Apes remake for Fox, I might as well throw my hat in. Seriously. It would just be Estella Warren (circa 2001) in skives for an hour and a half.
The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow, who is currently nominated for Best Director at this year’s Oscars, has reportedly turned down the chance to helm the Apes movie. She’s not the only one that has passed on the project. Sin City director Robert Rodriguez along with Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In) have all said “piss off” on the opportunity.
The remake is expected to be a prequel and will center on the genetic experimentation on apes that leads to their evolution and conquest of man. The film is tentatively titled Caesar.
Now Fox has Albert and Allen Hughes (The Book Of Eli), Pierre Morel (Taken, From Paris with Love), James McTeigue (Ninja Assassin), Dennis Illiadis (Last House On The Left reboot) and Scott Stewart (Legion) are currently being considered.
The script for Caesar was originally written by Scott Frank with Jaime Moss and Rick Jaffa hired for a rewrite.

This info is wrong. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver wrote the original script, with Scott Frank doing a rewrite. Rick and Amanda were later brought on again to rewrite Frank.
