Sony Bids on ‘Terminator’ Rights, World Yawns
Sony Outbids Lionsgate on ‘Terminator’ Rights?
Here’s the brief story: Since James Cameron first fleshed out The Terminator, the rights to his franchise have been passed around like dirty money. Between each of the four films, those rights have traded hands, and after the Halcyon Group lost out following Terminator Salvation, the future of the futuristic franchise has been up in the air.
I liked Terminator Salvation (with reservations), but I get the sense that nobody really cares who the franchise ends up with. Regardless, I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that mega-studio Sony has placed a last minute bid on the rights. Sony placed a bid on Thursday (the final day of the auction) that will likely take the Terminator rights out of Lionsgate’s hands.
Regardless of how you feel about the franchise, it’s still successful: Salvation made $371 million on a $200 million budget. That’s not an Avatar-scale success story, but it still proves that there’s a market.

If Sony is smart they will forget about the T4 timeline and pick up with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles which was amazingly good. If they can reconstitute the cast and crew they have a built in audience.
Yes, great TV show. Bring it back.
I also wish the future Terminator movies (or a TV series) would continue the story of The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
I agree.
Whoever buys the rights at the end, i just hope they'll continue it!
