McG to Leave T-800s for Romantic Hijinks with ‘This Means War’
‘Terminator Salvation’ Director in Talks for New Rom-Com
While Terminator Salvation director McG’s chances of giving the futuristic action franchise another shot continue to look grimmer by the day, the polarizing, or widely reviled (you choose), filmmaker isn’t resting on his laurels. In fact, he’s looking to vacate the sci-fi universe for shinier romantic comedy pastures; according to Variety, McG is in talks with Fox to direct This Means War, a rom-com to which both Reese Witherspoon and Bradley Cooper are attached. None of the three talents have officially signed any dotted lines yet, though, but they’re all eyeing the prize.
If both Witherspoon and Cooper ultimately hop aboard, there will be room for one more male lead, as the film’s plot revolves around two lifelong friends (one being Cooper, presumably) who fall for the same lady (Witherspoon) and then wage all-out war against each other, for laughs.
This Means War was, reportedly, supposed to be a Martin Lawrence vehicle, but then the usual Hollywood limbo games began and the project has been on ice, until now. Call me crazy, but I’m ready to slap those responsible for thawing this one out.
