Just last week, it was announced that Daniel Craig had taken over the lead role in Jon Favreau’s high-concept actioner/graphic novel adaptation Cowboys & Aliens, a position left vacant by Favreau’s Iron Man star Robert Downey, Jr. Now, it looks like the director has found his leading lady; The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog has spilled the beans that Olivia Wilde is in negotations to jump aboard as “Ella,” a character who bands together with Craig’s gunslinger to rumble with a swarm of extraterrestrials.
With a script written by the three-headed monster of Transformers and Star Trek scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, Cowboys & Aliens has a diesel pedigree behind it, and with the stunning Wilde close to participation the film is beginning to pick up the slack left behind by Downey Jr. On the production side will be Steven Spielberg, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, the writer of the original graphic novel.
If she indeed signs on, which should be the case, Cowboys & Aliens will be Wilde’s second big-league look, the first, Tron Legacy, coming this December. Not bad at all.
