‘Avatar’ Tops Box Office for Seventh Straight Week, $6 Million Away From ‘Titanic’ in Domestic Record Race

For the seventh straight week, James Cameron’s big blue movie, Avatar, finished atop the U.S. box office with another $30 million, bringing the film to $594 million. For those keeping score, Avatar is only $6 million away from breaking the domestic record currently held by Cameron’s other epic Titanic.
Mel Gibson’s return to acting in Edge of Darkness nabbed $17.1 million for No.2 while Disney’s rom-com When in Rome came in third with $12.1 million.
The fantasy comedy starring Dwayne Johnson, The Tooth Fairy, remains at its previous spot at No.4 with $10 million, while The Book Of Eli drops to No.5 with $8.7 million.
Legion, starring Paul Bettany, slipped to No.6 with $6.8 million.
