Even if NBC’s Heroes never regains its cool factor, star Zachary Quinto has nothing to fear, career wise. Last summer, he showed a great nuance and stone-faced vulnerability as a young Spock in J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek, and now it’s looking like he’ll work with a icon that Abrams himself would bown down to; according to the ever-reliable Deadline Hollywood, Quinto will star in a George Gershwin biopic that will be directed by none other than Steven Spielberg, with production possibly starting as soon as April.
Gershwin, for those who don’t know, was a Brooklyn-born son of Russian Jewish parents who went on to become a world-renown composer and pianist, who died at the young age of 38 (1898-1937) after working on over a dozen Broadway shows with his brother Ira. Dreamworks reportedly has dialogue and accent coaches primed for Quinto.
Spielberg is said to have three projects at the top of his list that he wants to tackle next, with this George Gershwin movie in said trio. With a star now attached, it seems likely this will be ultimately be his first post-Tintin job. But, of course, we’ll have to wait for an official announcement before jumping to any firm conclusions.
