In a recent survey conducted by the Department of Pop Studies at Danny Wood University in Boston, parents of children 5 to 18-years-old have dubbed Disney star Selena Gomez as the worst role model for their kids, beating out last year’s worst role model Raven Symone.
Rebecca Stansfeld, a social media professor at DWU, created the survey, which was published in the winter edition of the Like, OMG, Is That 4 Real? journal. “I’d like to tell you we were surprised by the result, but we weren’t,” says Stansfeld. “We knew that prude would win. All we hear from parents was, like, ‘Selena Gomez wears all these dresses, shirts and pants that cover her vajayjay up.’ It was really off-putting to a lot of parents.’
Stansfeld and her research team sent a questionnaire to 846 parents. Of those, 89 percent responded.
*36 percent said that Selena Gomez needed more booty shorts
*10 percent indicated that Gomez needed to dry hump/grind dancers on her musical tour
*13 percent said she needed to curse and perform indecent acts in public
*22 percent think Gomez needs to take raunchy pictures of herself and have her phone “hacked”
*5 percent thought Gomez needed to have professional pictures taken of her topless with messed up hair and lipstick so it looks like she just had sex and have her parents approve it
*8 percent believe Gomez should promote younger kids indulging themselves in beer, brushing teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniels and getting “shut down by the po po.”
*6 percent want Gomez to “shake it” though no explanation of what exactly Ms. Gomez should shake or for how long
The survey also included an area for parents to write in comments. Here is a sampling of what was received by the university.
“Selena needs to stop being such a stuck up [expletive] and get laid. I’d never let my kids watch her. I want my daughter to have fun, not be all ‘I gots dignity’ [sic].” – 23-year-old Rachel.
“I thinks [sic] Gomez needs to wear less. What kind of image dos [sic] she send to girls? If u [sic] got it, flaunt it. That’s what I say. I also ‘hook up 24/7′” – 14-year-old Starlight.
“Um…Selena Gomez needs to get a man. She needs to start getting sexy. My kids were watching her and now they said [expletive] like ‘I want to stay in school and help Ghana.’ What’s a Ghana?” – 34-year-old Jessica.
“On Halloween, I told my kids to go get me some candy. They started telling me crazy stuff about UNICEF and poor African babies. They said they got it from the girl that was Barney. It worked out in the end because I scored a lot of money at the end of the night. I wish my kids could be like Sasha Grey.” – 29-year-old Kim.
