Kristen Stewart says working the stripper pole is hard works

rl_kstewstripperTwilight star Kristen Stewart knows first hand that playing a stripper can be downright grueling and teaches a lesson to all of her teenage fans: working the pole ain’t easy.

Stewart, who is cast as a 16-year-old stripper that is taken in by a married man (played by James Gandolfini), has revealed that even though she is was injured over-and-over on the set of Welcome to the Rileys, she is enjoying the abuse in a “weird self-hating” way.

“I did some pole dancing. I got bruises all over my legs,” says Stewart. “I tore myself up doing it. It sucked. The more I saw it, the more I wanted it. It was like a weird self-hating kind of thing.”

Stewart adds: “The cool thing about my character is she is not sultry and she is not sexy.”

On working the stripper pole, Rileys director Jake Scott said the 19-year-old was a ball of nerves. “She was terrified,” he says. “The strip club we shot in was really a club, and it really was that dirty and really that tough. But she killed it.”

Adding: “She’s like one of the best in the business. So she was really reliable and didn’t do drugs or anything like that, but she was able to introduce Kristen to girls that were. She was able to put her in that world.”

Welcome to the Rileys recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
