Director Martin Campbell on cameos in ‘Green Lantern’: No on Superman, Batman; Yes on Kilowog, Tomar-Re

‘Green Lantern’ director talks superhero cameos

rl_greenlanternfightContrary to earlier reports that other DC heroes such as Superman and Batman will be making cameos in the upcoming feature Green Lantern, director Martin Campbell sets the record straight.

“No, that won’t happen,” says Campbell who doesn’t want to put a Marvel U spin on the film. Then again, with all the rights issues surrounding the Big Blue Boy Scout, it may be easier to just avoid the whole mess.

In October, AICN reported that a credible source within the project stated that Superman would indeed be showing up in the film, which could have very well been the case last Fall.

But who WILL be in it?

“Well, Kilowog will be,” says Campbell. “Tomar-Re is in it. Sinestro is in it. Abin Sur is in it. All the origin people. Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively. All the main characters are there, and it’s a complex story. The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right.”

I’m holding out for a G’nort and Guy Gardner appearance. Now those are REAL heroes.

Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and –possibly– Mark Strong as Sinestro. The film enters theaters on June 17, 2011.
