Muscle-bound ‘Twilight’ star in talks for ‘Conan’ remake

Kellan Lutz up for the part of Conan

rl_kellanKellan Lutz, who was in the background for much of Twilight and New Moon, is reportedly auditioning for the role of a younger Conan for a remake of Conan the Barbarian.

Rumors were a’poppin’ earlier this week stating that Lutz was competing with Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis) along with an unknown third candidate for the part.

“I’ve been auditioning,” says Lutz. “They’re finalizing so they’re trying to figure out what happens next. I’ve been waiting for a while, doing screen tests. If it happens, it happens.”

He adds: “It’s not gonna be the new Arnold Schwarzenegger type of movie, no one’s going to try and play that role. I think they’re going younger, a different type of story. I’m just excited, because the script is great.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in Conan the Barbarian in 1982, well before people knew how to pronounce “Schwarzenegger”. The film was directed by John Milius (Red Dawn). Based on the success of the film, a lesser quality sequel, Conan the Destroyer, was released in 1984 along with Red Sonja in 1985.

Lutz said he’d love to play a “big guy.” “It’s something that I’ve been actively going after because I’d die to put the weight back on,” said Lutz. “I’m tired of playing young; I want to be the big guy that I was.”
