Lionsgate Leads Bids for ‘Terminator’ Rights
Lionsgate Entertainment is Frontrunner for ‘Terminator’ Franchise Rights

Early in the franchise’s history, James Cameron sold the rights to The Terminator to his wife for a whopping one dollar. Since then, the rights to the Terminator franchise have traded hands four times, and in the wake of Terminator Salvation’s mixed reception, the future of robots is up in the air again, ready to be snatched up by the highest bidder.
After entering bankruptcy, the last owners, Halcyon Group, put the franchise up for sale, and currently the highest bidder is Lionsgate Entertainment, with an extremely low bid of $15 million dollars, “plus 5% of future gross receipts in exchange for the rights to make “Terminator” sequels and spin-offs.”
The Los Angeles Times also reveals that equity firm Pacificor, who lent Halcyon $25 million to purchase the rights to the franchise, might make a bid for the franchise; their call upon Halcyon’s debt forced them into bankruptcy.
The deadline for bids is February 5th. As long as 20th Century Fox doesn’t get ahold of it, I think we’ll all sleep well.
