Robert Downey Jr. Leaves ‘Cowboys & Aliens’
Downey Parts Ways With ‘Cowboys & Aliens’

Robert Downey Jr. has finally filled up his busy schedule with franchises like Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes, and it seems that he has little time for much else.
This includes Jon Favreau’s adaptation of the comic Cowboys & Aliens, which centers on “outer-space creatures who land in Arizona circa the mid-19th century intent on enslaving the local population — until a group of cowboys and Apache Indians fight back.” Downey would have been a cowboy named Zeke Jackson, although he could have played a member of each side of the battle for maximum Downey.
The LA Times reports that Cowboys & Aliens is still on track to shoot with Favreau this year, with a planned summer 2011 release.
This cancellation means several things: first, it reaffirms the notion that Iron Man is perhaps the biggest franchise going right now, and second, it seems to insinuate that another Sherlock Holmes film is on the horizon and will possibly be announced soon.
