Production on ‘Spider-Man 4′ grinds to a halt
A battle of villians takes place on Spider-Man 4
Apparently one can keep a good spider down.
Movement on Spider-Man 4 has been put on hiatus (and on notice!) over a reported dispute over the script.
Because of the halt, Spidey 4 may miss its May 5, 2011 release date over a tussle between director Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures regarding the story. A story that has seemingly gone through never-ending drafts, rewrites and edits. The rumor going around is that Raimi is pushing for Vulture to appear as the villain and to have him played by Oscar-winner John Malkovich. Sony has balked.
There is also talk that Anne Hathaway may play the daughter of Vulture. (I support it. Any Anne Hathaway is fine with me.)
For those wondering, Spider-Man 3 took around 18 months from production to release. Using history as a gauge, production on Spider-Man 4 will need to move forward pretty soon. “I think making May is a real question,” says a mysterious Sony insider. “We will not start until we have it right. The feeling is we are not going to rush it to make the date.”
