Sam Mendes Might Shoot ‘Bond 23′

‘Away We Go’ Director in Talks for ‘Bond 23′

Just yesterday we reported that MGM’s ongoing bidding war had indefinitely delayed the 23rd entry in the James Bond film franchise. But today … the franchise gets a shot in the arm with perhaps the best news since Martin Campbell’s return with Casino Royale?

It seems that Away We Go and Revolutionary Road director Sam Mendes is currently in talks to direct Bond 23. While Mendes hasn’t really shown off his action chops (unless you count Road to Perdition), he’s certainly capable of delivering a meaningful and poignant film. With the current and down-to-earth 007 track in mind, Mendes’ direction would be an inspired choice.

It’s unknown what impact the MGM sale will have on Mendes’ possible involvement, but in my opinion, I hope it works out in Mendes’ favor. While many will say that they should pass by another Marc Forster-eque director in favor of someone with a background in action films, I think this is a superb option.
