Harold Ramis talks ‘Ghostbusters 3′, says old team will be like “Christopher Lloyd in ‘Back to the Future’”

Harold Ramis talks production of ‘Ghostbusters 3′

rl_ramisIn another round of Ghostbusters 3 talk, Harold Ramis said that the third entry in the Ghostbusting saga will begin production in the summer of 2010. While that seems like great news for most folks under the age of 37, I have to look at this news with a little nugget of skepticism.

During the summer both Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray did not seem very enthused nor involved in the project.

“Obviously its all talk until I have the following: B117B3X9, that’s a production number,” Dan Aykroyd said. “When I see the production number, then I’ll know I’m in the picture business again. But I don’t have the production number tonight.”

He added: “We have a script, but no production number and until we have the green light, we can’t stick the pipe up into the mega-corporation and draw the honey.”

Bill Murray wasn’t comforting either. “So I’m not going to be believe the Ghostbusters story until I see the script,” he told AbsoluteRadio. “Well, I don’t want to do it yet. There’s still no script, it’s just a bunch of talk. It’s just a wish list for someone. Until there is a really good script, I’ll stay home. It has to be a serious script before I leave the house.”

As for Skeleton Cabbie, he hasn’t seen any script whatsoever.

Never mind the bullplop. Ramis says now is time for action.

“Something’s going to happen,” he said. “Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec GB3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the FutureGB3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011.”

For those confused by the “Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future” comment, here’s my hypothesis. Lloyd co-starred in the movie and was largely in a mentor capacity. This would mean that the ‘busters that we know and love will act as fatherly advise givers who will trick Libyans with a bomb made of pinball machine parts.

Ghostbusters 3 is supposed to arrive in theaters in 2011.
