Those scurvy pirates know no decency especially when it come to video games.
Mammoth video game hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the most pirated game of 2009 according to TorrentFreak. The PC format of the first-person-shooter has been reportedly downloaded nearly 4.1 million times during the year. That’s staggering considering the game arrived on shelves only two months ago.
This means Activision may have lost nearly $245 million in lost sales of the game.
Joining Modern Warfare 2 was The Sims 3, Prototype, Need for Speed Shift and Street Fighter IV. All titles were on the PC platform. New Super Mario Bros was the leading pirated title for the Nintendo Wii with 1.1 million downloads.
The report from TorrentFreak also notes that 2009 saw a doubling of illegal downloads since 2008 with PC titles remaining the most sought after software over Wii and Xbox 360.
