rl_avatarWith all the talk of James Cameron turning the Avatar story into a trilogy, the popular director has noted that the next rumored installment will not be a prequel. If you are wanting to see how Sam Worthington’s character, Jake Sully, lost the use of his legs, you’re out of luck…and you’re sick.

Earlier this month Cameron talked about the proposed follow-ups to Avatar and commented on what the cost might look at for the production.

“…in terms of the pitch it was: OK, you’ve spent a lot of money on the first one; on the second one we’ll be able to amortize it [the CG assets] and focus on the story and all that … and they bought that,” says Cameron regarding the assets and technology that has already been produced for the first film. Having these in place would make follow-ups cheaper to make and could increase profit margins for the studio.

While speaking with MTV, Cameron stated that the next two movies would pick-up from where Avatar left off.  “We’ll follow Jake and Neytiri [Zoe Saldana],” says Cameron. “I have a trilogy-scaled arc of story right now, but I haven’t really put any serious work into writing a script.”

Last month, Worthington spoke about more Avatar movies, saying he would “94 by the time [the trilogy] finishes.”

  3. I loved Avatar. However, I just don't see a sequel really. Where will the drama occur? The conflict? The humans return for vengeance? Then we are pretty much watching the same movie over again. With the exception of there being some civil war between tribes. But that would go against the philosophy that the writers created for the Na'vi and their basic respect for their people and surrounding. Then gain, James Cameron just might be able to surprise me. That being said, still loved the film but I don't see a sequel.

  4. I can say one thisn about the trilogy of Avatar the vengence factor will not be used ( at least I hope not) I would guess it will pick up where Jake opens his eyes in his Avatar knowing that his human body is no more there is so much to explore on that front. I am so psyched for the next one.

i saw this movie recently and it is now my favorite movie. I had to watch a second time… and then a third time! i just couldnt get enough! the world was so fascinating! did anyone else notice how all of the creature were mixtures of animals on earth, only with Pandora features? like the horses were a mixture of seahorses and regular horses or the huge rhino looking thing with a hammerhead shark shaped horn that sounded like an elephant. and the Na'vi kinda looked like a mix of cat and monkey except with a human brain. SO interesting! james cameron has a mind like jrr tolkiens. their made up worlds are so incredibly detailed and creative. I wish i was that talented.

Avatar was a direct rip-off of the story Pocahontas. I wonder what Cameron's 'inspiration' will be for the sequel…

I have never been so captured by a film… I never believed a film could grip me in the same way a book would. I was wrong. I saw this film 6 times in the cinema and since buying an entire Blu-Ray setup to watch this incredible film, I have watched it a further 6 times, and I can honestly say that it is as good the twelfth time as it was the first! I'll be counting the days until Avatar 2! Thanks James Cameron, absolutely Incredible!

HA HA!!! I just had an illuminating thought! Avatar is EXTREMELY like the kid's movie cartoon called Ferngully. If you haven't seen it, watch it! It's very close to the same storyline (though it's only VHS). Except for the end scene battle and the weird gas monster, the rest is SOOOOOo close. I mean, you've got these guys that want to plow down the forest to start industrial products and the main character is with them. Then he goes over to the "savage" side (Not accordingly to his will, unlike in Avatar) but eventually helps them out. Him and his friend get close to makeing out (close because it's STILL a kid's movie) and then she learns the truth that he's with the foresters so she get's pissed at him. There are more similarities and I think the ressemblance is stunning!

It was the worst movie I have seen, next to Skulls. It was extremely difficult to sit still during the droning on of that bucket of slop. If pails (haha) in comparison to Nemesis of 1992 – which was horrible, but at least it held a thin plot together better than Avatar. Alas, give the people what they want, let them eat cake! Their mouths were full of it this time around and they loved it. Whoa, there! That ain't chocolate!
