James Cameron talks ‘Avatar’ sequels
With all the talk of James Cameron turning the Avatar story into a trilogy, the popular director has noted that the next rumored installment will not be a prequel. If you are wanting to see how Sam Worthington’s character, Jake Sully, lost the use of his legs, you’re out of luck…and you’re sick.
Earlier this month Cameron talked about the proposed follow-ups to Avatar and commented on what the cost might look at for the production.
“…in terms of the pitch it was: OK, you’ve spent a lot of money on the first one; on the second one we’ll be able to amortize it [the CG assets] and focus on the story and all that … and they bought that,” says Cameron regarding the assets and technology that has already been produced for the first film. Having these in place would make follow-ups cheaper to make and could increase profit margins for the studio.
While speaking with MTV, Cameron stated that the next two movies would pick-up from where Avatar left off. “We’ll follow Jake and Neytiri [Zoe Saldana],” says Cameron. “I have a trilogy-scaled arc of story right now, but I haven’t really put any serious work into writing a script.”
Last month, Worthington spoke about more Avatar movies, saying he would “94 by the time [the trilogy] finishes.”

300 million for the film production/CGI, 150 million for marketing, tens of millions for the talent, hundreds of thousands for craft services (burp!), naming the precious ore "unobtainium," the same name as the composite used in the hull of a ship designed to travel to the center of the earth in the movie "The Core," PRICELESS! It was the only moment in the film where I lost all perspective, chuckled, regained my perspective, and then forgave James Cameron for such an oversight, and continued to be amazed by the masterpiece Avatar.
I’m not trying to be douche or anything, I just want to correct a statement you made in your comment. Now, I’m sure your just as big of an Avatar fan as I am because you took the time to search “Avatar 2″ and found this link and wrote what you thought about this amazing movie as I have all over the web. Now, Cameron did not name the ore “Unobtainium” nor did he oversight the fact that it was used in “The Core”. I’m sure he was well aware of all this because the word “Unobtainium” is used in the scientific community to represent anything that would solve any given problem and make anything perfect. For example, whatever could make a vehicle be faster than the speed of light is Unobtainium because for now it is unobtainable, see? Unobtainium and unobtainable? Same root, just wanted to specify. I'm just going to say….and i'm sure i'm not the only one…in tears at least 3 times..that was the most amazing….heart jerker…azz kickin…love story…super amazing battle film i have ever seen….I just got online after seeing the movie to see if there was going to be an AVATAR 2…and low and behold i see there are going to be 3 of them….i for one won't be able to rest good until the 2nd one comes out. I absolutely LOVED this movie from start to superb finish. I was an emotional wreck after this movie…and i'm not ashamed to admit i'm a 250 lb body builder and my wife…lol…she was amazed there was a movie that did that to me…LOL….AMAZING WORK!!!! Can't wait for the next one.

last night i saw avatar .i went to this movie with some great expectation and this movie fulfilled all my expectations.i saw it in 3d.the 3d effect was superb.James Cameroon has absolutely taken the special effects to the next level and am sure that this film will definitely prove to be the gateway for all the science fiction movies.i absolutely loved every minute of this movie.all the creatures in this movie looked so real and that too in 3d it was awesome.the characterization was excellent (especially of Jake Sully and Dr.grace was superb).this movie has all the ingredients in it to make it undoubtedly the best movie of the year and also the best movie in the history of Hollywood.all the credit goes to the master movie maker,James Cameroon.so i give this movie a 10/10.

Just returned from the theaters where I watched Avatar in 3D — amazing! I heard a lot of great things about this film, so I had high expectations and I still was blown away. Great job! I'm going again in iMAX 3D.

r4i software said in his comments that it was the United States Armed forces that fought the navi. Not true. Cameron made it a point to say at the beginning of the movie that marines fought for freedom and justice but some left the service to became the hired guns for the company. It was not the marines but Mercenaries that fougnt the Navi.

Avatar is, without a doubt, my favorite move of all time, even all of these comments about it make me cry. Yes, the story was predictable but only because we’ve experienced it throughout our history, only this one had a better outcome for the oppressed.
James Cameron dreamed of a story where Indians kick the cowboys ass, the Aboriginees reclaiming their lands from the English in Australia and the African’s successfully turning back the hoards of slavers stealing their best and brightest and the planet Earth, herself, takes down those who would distroy her forests and rape her natural resources all in the name of GREED!
Cameron saw fit to give the Navi a Champion, an Alien who came to live among them and learn their ways (yes, Dances with the Wolfs can be referrenced here). But, unlike Costner in Dances, Jake Sulley had a powerful alli. He had a thinking, feeling, powerful diety and the humility and wisdom and to PRAY TO THIS DIETY FOR DEVINE.INTERVENTION.
Alas, we are doomed. But at least Cameron showed us what it could have been like. Thanks for that James.
