Peter Morgan Says ‘Bond 23′ Will be “Shocking”

I might be utterly alone in the world when I say that I really enjoyed Quantum of Solace. I love the brutality of the film, the tension that is never ceased — it is the cinematic equivalent of a bullet shredding through several of James Bond’s nemeses. Sure, the film had its problems with camera work, but most of those are cleared up on the smaller screen.

That said — the franchise needs new blood for the still-untitled Bond 23. Daniel Craig will always be great, and regular writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade do their best to ground the films in Ian Fleming’s character canon, but it’s time Paul Haggis stepped down and someone fresh took the torch.

That person is Peter Morgan, the writer of The Last King of Scotland, The Queen and The Damned United. So yes, a talented guy. While we don’t have a finished product from Morgan yet, he does have an idea of where he’s taking the story: namely, that it will be “shocking.”

So now starts the guessing game, right? How much can one read into a single descriptor? Personally, I’d like to see the emergence of SPECTRE or even a massive double-cross. How cool would it be if MI-6 had been completely infiltrated by members of organizations like Quantum and Bond was essentially being hunted down by his own people?

Where do you think the story should go? And while you’re at it — who should direct the film? Devindra at /Film nominates Kick-Ass‘ Matthew Vaughn, while I’m of the opinion that only one modern day director has mastered Bond inside and out: Goldeneye and Casino Royale’s Martin Campbell.

You're not alone, I liked QoS very much out of the same reasons like you did. And my suggestion for director of Bond 23? Christopher Nolan!
