LIVE – Updates from the Video Game Awards

Live Blogging from VGA’s

6:56 PM PST – And that concludes it. Again, can’t express how happy I am that Uncharted 2 kicked so much ass. Some big announcements including Halo Reach, Medal of Honor, and Arkham Asylum 2. Aside from Best Voice Actor, you can’t complain much about the winners. Overall, probably the best year in terms of that for the show. It was fun, look forward to next year. In the meantime, here’s the full list of winners. Thank ya, and good night:

Best Performance By A Human Female – Megan Fox, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

6:54 PM PST – Whoa! Uncharted 2: Among Thieves steals it! Makes me feel proud I wore my Uncharted 2 shirt. Quite honestly, I agree with it. I love Modern Warfare 2 as much as the next guy, but Uncharted 2 has a single player that’s unparalleled by anything in the last few years. Naughty Dog, congratulations. This was very well earned.

6:52 PM PST – Jake Gyllenhaal comes out again to announce Game of the Year. I ALMOST want Uncharted 2 to take it.

6:48 PM PST – Tricia Helfer comes out to announce Halo Reach. Trailer begins with a Warthog driving toward a base. Spartan steps out, and enters into a briefing room. “Spartan’s never die,” is uttered, and the trailer concludes with an Elite and a plasma sword. Graphically, it looks amazing, but this was nothing more than a tease.

6:47 PM PST – Best Graphics goes to  Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and I really don’t think anyone can disagree with that. The game is gorgeous and is a very serious ‘Game of the Year’ contender. It also took home Best PS3 Game.

6:42 PM PST – Also, to the surprise of no one, Modern Warfare 2 wins Best Multiplayer Game. Was that even a contest?

6:39 PM PST – As cool as it would have been to see DJ Hero steal it, The Beatles: Rock Band wins the award. Can’t say it’s not undeserved.

6:36 PM PST – Living legend Stevie Wonder comes out to a standing ovation. Well deserved. He’s presenting ‘Best Music Game.’ My prediction? The Beatles: Rock Band.

6:30 PM PST – More winners from tonight:

Best Fighting Game – Street Fighter IV
Best Handheld Game – Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
Best Soundtrack – DJ Hero
Best Xbox 360 Game – Left 4 Dead 2
Best Original Soundtrack – Halo 3: ODST
Best Game Based On A Movie Or TV Show: South Park Let’s Go Tower Defense
Best Driving Game – Forza Motorsport 2

6:28 PM PST – Ok, do I really, really need to say what won? I’ll give you a hint, it starts with Call of Duty.

6:26 PM PST – Mike Tyson is out with the cast of Jersey Shore to present ‘Best Shooter’. Aside from wanting him to knock out this cast, it’s pretty obvious what’s getting this award.

6:25 PM PST – Joel McHale comes out and debuts the new Medal of Honor. Coming Fall 2010, is it too wrong of me to think it as a poor man’s Modern Warfare 2?

6:19 PM PST – Few Awards Winners not on the show:

Best Wii Game: New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Best DLC – Grand Theft Auto: The Ballad of Gay Tony
Most Anticipated Game – God of War III
Best Downloadable Game – Shadow Complex
Best Performance By A Human Female – Megan Fox, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

6:18 PM PST – Green Day world premieres Green Day: Rock Band. Ehh, why? I understand they’re popular, but why can’t we get Led Zeppelin: Rock Band or even Pink Floyd: Rock Band?

6:16 PM PST – Unsurprisingly, Dragon Age: Origins wins. BioWare is the King of RPG’s right now, and this game just further proves it. Borderlands could have stolen it, but the award is where it belongs.

6:15 PM PST – Snoop Dogg announces Best RPG. Dragon Age, this is yours.

6:09 PM PST – Crackdown 2 trailer premieres. Various clips of The Agent and his buddies blowing and shooting up everything. Looks like more of the same, which isn’t bad at all. “Would you like to blow stuff up with me?” Hell yes.

6:06 PM PST – UFC 2009 Undisputed wins it. Forrest Griffin accepts, and reminds me what I’ll be doing when this is over. Should it have won? Eh, maybe, but the best sports game already did.

6:04 PM PST – Stephen A. Smith comes out to present ‘Best Individual Sports Game’.

6:03 PM PST – Spec Ops: The Line trailer debuts. Color me excited, even if it feels like a marriage of Gears of War and Modern Warfare 2.

5:53 PM PST – My brother in the Steeler Nation, Snoop Dogg is out there so now’s time to recap so far.

Best Voice Actor – Jack Black, Brutal Legend
Best Action/Adventure Game – Assassin’s Creed II
Best Team Sports Game – NHL 10
Best Performance By A Human Male – Hugh Jackman, X-Men Origins – Wolverine: Uncaged Edition
Best Cast – X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Uncaged Edition
Best Independent Game – Flower

Game Announcements thus far (or that I know of:)

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Tron Evolution
A sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum

5:52 PM PST – As expected Flower wins it. Good pick up.

Just a side note, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 was announced today. Would have loved to see the footage, but oh well.

5:51 PM PST – Olivia Wilde comes out to announce Best Independent Game. Flower should take this.

5:49 PST PM – Hugh Jackman recorded a pre-taped video to accept Best Performance By A Human Male. X-Men: Origins – Wolverine Uncaged Edition also wins Best Cast. Truthfully, he earned Best Performance. Best Cast? That’s a different story.

5:43 PST PM – Fianlly, we’re allowed to see footage. This comes from Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Very quick tease, with sands swirling and out emerges the Prince. Then he jumps on a building and that ends it. UbiSoft? Platformer? Worth it.

5:41 PST PM – HELL YES! Score one for hockey! NHL 10 wins Team Sports Game of the Year. As it should.

5:39 PST PM – “Blue Mountain State” guys come out and present ‘Best Sports Game.’ Should go to NHL, but likely Madden will take it.

5:37 PST PM – Out comes Jake Gyllenhaal to present clips of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. And once again, we can’t see it. Honestly, what’s the point of having us update if we can’t see it?

5:30 PST PM – Samuel L. Jackson comes out and presents the new Star Wars game. And none of us press can see it for whatever reason. Ultimate Fail, Spike.

5:27 PST PM – Rocksteady wins Studio of the Year. Good choice? Ehh, maybe, but Infinity Ward should have picked it up. Oh well.

5:26 PST PM – Just got connected after a bit of not being connected. Nolan North should have had Best Voice, and congrats to UbiSoft for Assassin’s Creed II.
