Dead Space was a game fellow writer and friend Ilya (who will be tag-teaming the VGA’s with me this weekend) suggested I pick up. He was right, as it would turn into the best fifteen dollars I ever spent for a video game. Dead Space proved to be a fun, atmospheric adventure that I actually preferred to Capcom’s Resident Evil 5.

Well, EA feels there’s a franchise to be made out of it and have officially announced Dead Space 2. In an official statement released here, executive producer Steve Papoutsis chimed in:

“We’re thrilled to jump back into the series, making the next chapter in Isaac’s journey. The infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of necromorphs that need killing! In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

Good move for them. The first offered great and unique play with it’s amputation system, and Isaac Clarke ended up becoming one of my favorite game characters of the decade. While the game did get a little repetitive toward the end, the dismembering of Necromorphs more than made up for it. It’s also tough to imagine EA and Visceral dropping the ball with this installment.

No release dates or anything else is available, just that the game is coming. Hopefully, this will be a good way to spend 2010. For me? I’m expecting some form of a trailer this Saturday…but I’ve been wrong before.

  1. Anyway, you have a fascinating take on this subject. Please update this blog on a more regular basis! Also, do you allow your readers to submit to you topics they want to personally know more about? Right now I have a question on this issue because I am going through a challenging situation with a woman I have a crush on and I am not sure how to proceed. I’d like to ask for your thoughts…or perhaps someone can suggest a book that I ought to read?
