Chris Weitz on ‘New Moon’ reviews: “Some people don’t get it”

New Moon director says film is for “fans”

rl_chrisweitzDirector Chris Weitz isn’t surprised by all the negative reviews of his latest film The Twilight Saga: New Moon. After all, some of you may not “get it.”

New Moon arrived in theaters on November 20th and since its release, the vampire drama has shattered box office records and will likely continue to dominate the long Thanksgiving weekend.

It stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

“Having been a reviewer myself, there are only two ways to spin this story,” says Weitz. “You can either be the one guy who says this is a great movie, or more likely, take a more jaundiced view of the whole thing. And given the media blitz that has accompanied New Moon, it’s rather unsurprising.”

He added: “I do wish there was more appreciation for cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe. I think he’s a genius and I think he made something beautiful.”

Weitz finished the interview by saying he had realized he would “not necessarily get good reviews” for the movie but insisted that it was “made for the fans, and if you don’t get it, then you don’t get it”.
