Vatican official on ‘New Moon’: “a moral vacuum with a deviant message”

Vatican expresses concern over New Moon popularity

DF-15157.jpgAs expected, the Vatican expressed some concern over New Moon, the follow-up to 2008’s Twilight.

“This theme of vampires in Twilight combines a mixture of excesses that, as ever, is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element,” said Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, a member of the Pontifical Council of Culture.

He added: “Men and women are transformed with horrible masks and it is once again that age-old trick or ideal formula of using extremes to make an impact at the box office.”

“This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern.”

I’m confounded that the Vatican wouldn’t find appeal in the theme of abstinence, marriage and devotion.
