‘New Moon’ breaks records for midnight showings
‘New Moon’ tops ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ on midnight showings
New Moon was a hit during its midnight opening Thursday. In other news, Megan Fox is covered way too much by online movie sites.
The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the second installment in the successful Twilight series, nabbed an estimated $26.27 million in 3,514 theaters for a per-theater average of $7,476. This beats the previous record-setter for midnight showings, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which opened with $22.2 million on July 15th.
In some theaters, Summit Entertainment played the original Twilight right before New Moon opened. That film grossed another $1.3 million. That’s $1.3 million more than I make in a year.
New Moon will be playing in 4,024 theaters during its first week run.
