Courteney Cox chats ‘Scream 4′, imagines character has had ‘a lot of kids’

Cougar Town and Friends star Courteney Cox is excited about her return to the Scream franchise for the upcoming fourth entry.
The 45-year-old will reprise her role as annoying reporter Gale Weathers in Scream 4. When asked what Gayle and her beau Deputy Dewey (played by real-life husband David Arquette) would be doing since the ending of Scream 3, Cox waxed poetically.
“They’re probably back living in Woodsboro. I think that he’s probably still deputy, and I’ve had a lot of kids,” says Cox. “I don’t know. I’m probably miserable, and then I’m sure a lot of murdering will happen… There are really only a few of us that survived.”
Scream 4 writer Kevin Williamson said earlier this month that he will be adding “twists and turns” the project, which may include killing off long-time characters: “The thing about Scream 4 is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can’t promise anything,” Williamson said about the Sidney character. “There are a lot of moving pieces, so we’ll see — but if you’re a Scream fan, I think you’re really going to like it.”
Planned as a new trilogy, the next Scream series will focus on younger stars with Neve Campbell reprising her Sidney Prescott role.
Scream 4 will begin production this April with a release sometime in 2010.
