Is the Russian government too sensitive? ‘Modern Warfare 2′ pulled from shelves due to “airport massacre” scene
Russia pulls copies of ‘Modern Warefare 2′ from shelves
Russian officials have yanked the highly-anticipated Activision first-person shooter Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from its country’s shelves.
Due to a controversial (and purely optional) early level in the game, complete with a warning that the content may offend users, an airport massacre scene where players join a group of Russian gunmen as they open fire on a group of civilians has caused quite a stir.
The Russian government has reportedly banned sales of Modern Warfare 2 for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Sony PlayStation 3 while Infinity Ward is currently working to issue a censored version of the game.
Pending validation from the Russian government, the censored console versions of the game are expected to be released within less than a month, with the mission removed. The game’s content has raised the ire of the Russian gaming public as well as a number of politicians who object to its portrayal of Russia’s armed forces as terrorists who invade the United States and subsequently erect statues of dead terrorists in Washington D.C.
Modern Warfare 2 “features a deep and gripping storyline in which players face off against a terrorist threat dedicated to bringing the world to the brink of collapse. The game includes a plot involving a mission carried out by a Russian villain who wants to trigger a global war. In order to defeat him, the player infiltrates his inner circle. The scene is designed to evoke the atrocities of terrorism.”
The PC version is currently available in Russia because it carries a patch that cuts the level from the game, but sadly, console gamers will have to wait.

To tell you the truth that level was a little disturbing for me. I didn't pull the trigger until FSB showed up and started shooting at me. But thats just me. Thats not to say some dumb ass out there won't try to do the same thing that they saw on the game and start another "Blame Video Games" campaign when it's the individual themselves that should be blamed. And with all the crap going on in the world, that's the last thing we need right now.
But it's a little funny that Russia didn't get offended by the levels that show the Russian Army invading Virginia and Washington D.C.
Is this scene/mission the only reason it is an 18?
As if the Russian government is so high up on the "moral scale" that they even have the right to complain.
So they have a free market….so long as their goverment approves of the scenes in a video game. LOL, what a joke of a country.
Drink your vodka Russia, it's what you are good at.
