Twilight fans head off to Italy to walk in the steps of Edward and Bella
Twilight fans head to Italy to parade around in black
Websites aren’t the only ones leaping to cover to all things Twilight, the Tuscan town of Volterra is also trying to cash in the mammoth popularity of author Stephanie Meyer’s vampire series.
Volterra is the home to the fictional (yes, Twilight isn’t real, friends) vampire ruling body, the Volturi in the Twilight saga.
Backpackers and other tourists have been blazing a trail to Volterra (pop. 12,000) to see first hand the fabled stomping grounds of some of their favorite characters. Despite the footage in New Moon actually being shot 70 miles southeast in Montepulciano, fans are still flocking to the hamlet. Entrepreneurs in Volterra have set up souvenir shops featuring Robert Pattinson calendars, mugs, shirts and other Twilight themed merchandise.
The small town’s tourism office is even setting up a “Hot on the Trail of Edward and Bella” walking tour.
At newmoonvolterra.com, you see Volterra publicizing several big events including Waiting for New Moon theme parties with readings and screenings of extended trailers in the lead-up to the release.
Sadly they couldn’t nab Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattinson for guest appearances. On the bright side, the did snag their Italian language dubbers from the first two films.
