Bette Midler Personally Making NYC Greener
Bette Midler Plans to Plant 1 Million Trees in NYC by 2017
For as much as we hear about celebrities for all the scandal and negative things in which they find themselves entangled, it’s rather refreshing to hear about one of them doing something good.
One such celeb doing her part is music legend Bette Midler.
Back in 1995, Midler noticed a lack of upkeep in New York City parks and public spaces and decided to do something about it. This spurred her to start the New York Restoration Project.
The goal of the foundation is to plant one million trees in New York City by 2017. Midler is already on a roll with the project, having just recently planted her 250,000th tree. She also revamped a garden near Yankee Stadium.
And no, the singer isn’t just a name behind the foundation. Said Midler in an interview with Good Housekeeping, “I realized I needed to actually do something — even if it meant picking up trash with my own two hands.”
To gain funding for the project, Midler has started a charity auction at CharityFolks.com. The auction will feature walk-on roles, autographed items and more, donated by celebs including Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Carell, and John Mayer.
If you’re interested in bidding on items in Midler’s auction, or just want to find out more about it, click here. But hurry–the auction ends November 13th.
