rl_mickeysnowedinI have a dark and hideous secret. Only a handful of friends know about this, but I felt it was time to let the minions of the interwebs know the truth: I love Christmas. There I said it.

For me, Christmas is about family, faith, buckets of hot chocolate, too many renditions of Here Comes Santa Claus and, yes, learning to get over yourself and enjoy the holiday.

In Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse, Disney has repackaged the original 2001 release just in time for the holidays.

Snowed In, one of two House of Mouse tales featured on the disc, stars Mickey, Goofy, and Donald who are running a nightclub for a whole host of Disney characters. When a freak snowstorm lands squarely on their pad, over 35 Disney characters are stranded inside with nothing to do except sing songs, perform skits and show previously created content like Donald on Ice, The Nutcracker, Pluto’s Christmas Tree and Mickey’s Christmas Carol. But not everyone is happy with the predicament. Donald is this feature’s humbugging scrooge and bemoans the entire ordeal. Fear not. Only the most hardened of ducks could escape a Disney Christmas with a poor attitude and Donald has a heart of puddin’. The duck soon finds happiness with his pals.

The new edition of Mickey’s Magical Christmas is a complete repackaging. Be aware that only the cover has changed, not the content. The cover art features Disney’s iconic princesses, but don’t be fooled. Despite their prominence on the cover, the content belongs to Mickey and the gang. The disc also features FastPlay because the technology simply did not exist in 2001. Despite the lack of changes, it really shouldn’t matter to folks who have never heard of, nor owned the original feature.

Mickey’s Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse still makes a family friendly time and is perfect for car rides over to the grandparent’s house.

Video/Audio:

Shockingly lame here. The picture is presented in 1.33:1 fullscreen. It’s crisp and bright and looks fantastic, but fullscreen? Really? That’s so 1997.

The audio track isn’t much better as Disney just added a ye olde DTS 5.1 track.

Bonus Features:

- The premier episode of the animated series House of Mouse
- The Sounds of Christmas: discover the secrets of movie sound effects with a Disney sound effects artist, along with a special version of Twas the Night Before Christmas
- Sing-Along songs Deck the Hall and Sleigh Ride
