Local paparazzi angered by Lady Gaga’s tune
Not everybody likes Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’
Lady Gaga’s single Paparazzi has been tearing up the airwaves since its debut this past summer. The song, from the pop sensation’s debut album The Fame, has a melodic beat that fans all over the world are humming to. Yet, not everybody is so enthralled by the song’s lyrics.
“Frankly, I’m pretty pissed off,” says freelance photographer Chaz Memberton. “You know, being a paparazzi isn’t easy. It’s [expletive] hard work and I reject anybody saying it’s easy or that anybody can do it. Have you heard her lyrics? She suggests that some of her weird-ass fans that are taking her pictures are like paparazzi. That’s nonsense.”
The song has been a critical success for Lady Gaga as it peaked at No.6 on Billboard’s Top 40 in the U.S.. It has been hailed as one of the best songs on her album and she performed it recently on NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
“I watched it,” Memberton added. “Me and my friends just sat there and threw fry bags at the screen. She tarnishes the good name of paparazzi when she sings that. ‘Paparazzi’ means gold or people who do great things. Look it up,” he says. “It takes persistence, timing and lack of total respect for personal space that only a select group can master. [Do] you think some 12-year-old girl can hide in bushes and take pictures of Brad Pitt buying a bottle of Odwalla? I think not. Do those people get in Suri Cruise’s face and ask how her day is while blinding her with huge-ass flashing light bulb? [Expletive] no. That’s our job.”
Some fans of Lady Gaga are equally upset. 56-year-old Thomas Chadriddle of Cincinnati sports a large collection of photographs of the singer along with a mammoth amount of “sweat rags” in his home. “Lady Gaga uses these towels on her rear and I keep them. I have over 120 of them,” Chadriddle said.
When asked about the lyrics to Paparazzi, Chadriddle said, “I love that song. Did you know it’s actually not about paparazzi? It’s about crazy fans. Not me…other people. Some of them are crazy.”
We followed the self-proclaimed “Secret Gay Boyfriend” of Lady Gaga’s around his studio apartment. When we entered his bedroom we saw thousands of photographs of the pop star, most of them candids, on his ceiling. When asked what his girlfriend must think of this, Chadriddle chuckled. “These are all pictures of my girlfriend. Why would she be mad. I have them on my ceiling so I can touch myself all day and think of her nose.”

"The word "paparazzi" is an eponym originating in the 1960 film La dolce vita directed by Federico Fellini. One of the characters in the film is a news photographer named Paparazzo (played by Walter Santesso). "
Look it up ? Were the most ignorant Paparazzis chosen to interview for this, and why didn't the author do just as invited, and look it up and post a bit addressing that claim of it meaning "gold". Poor journalism.
