Huge: J.J. Abrams mentions Star Trek villain Khan
Will Khan be in Star Trek 2?
Along with covering the mythical Batman 3, writing articles about Star Trek 2 is rule No.3 for movie bloggers. It’s not like we have a choice. We have to cover minuscule nuggets of any Star Trek news. If we don’t…well, the Council will remove our membership in the geek club and all we have left are Katie Holmes galleries.
Lost co-creator and all-around good guy J.J. Abrams spoke to MTV about the long rumored villain for Star Trek’s follow-up movie: the legendary Khan.
**Warning: the script is still being hammered out by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof and we know of no certain plot points minus that the story will go “deeper.”**
Abrams said that if Khan were included in the next Star Trek, a different spin will be placed on the character much like Kirk and Spock in the last film.
“I think one of the by-products of doing this movie was we were able to dispel the obvious and understandable concerns – how can Star Trek possibly exist without those original cast members?” the Star Trek director said. “Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced. Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise.”
Khan was played by the late Ricardo Montalban in the original TV series and in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The film is heralded by many as the best in the series.
“While I don’t want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we’ve seen in the past… nothing is off limits in terms of what we’re discussing.”
