Will a sequel to ‘Mamma Mia!’ become a prequel? Dominic Cooper speaks
Dominic Cooper chats Mamma Mia! 2
While promoting his next film, An Education, in the U.K., Dominic Cooper was asked if he was approached for a sequel to the 2008 musical rom-com Mamma Mia!. “Unfortunately you say sequel, I’ve heard a terrible similar word beginning with a ‘p’, which absolutely outs my existence in it whatsoever,” he said.
Cooper added: “I’d do anything to go and film on a Greek island again.”
The interwebs have been a buzz over the prospect of another Mamma Mia! and Cooper stated that he wouldn’t mind having ’80s song substitute for Abba if the Swedish band doesn’t allow their hits for a second feature.
“You could go down the Duran Duran route – or jive music,” he said.
An Education arrives in British theaters on October 30th. The story revolves around a teenage girl in 1960s suburban London, and how her life changes with the arrival of a playboy nearly twice her age.
Mamma Mia! starred Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. The film grossed $601 million worldwide.
Considering the popularity of Mamma Mia!, a sequel seemed like a forgone conclusion, but a prequel? Why? It would seem easier (and better!) just to continue on with Sophie’s marriage rather than backtrack to Streep’s character slutting it with three blokes.
What do you think?

If Amanda and Dominic are not in the next movie, I probably will not be seeing it. They added the spark to Mamma Mia. They were the only reason I went back to see the movie several times.
As long as the acting LEGEND that is Meryl Streep, is in it…I'm there!
I think a sequel would be better than a prequel, but without the music of Abba?! Not really worthy of the title 'Mamma Mia!' is it?
At the end of the day, it's really in the hands of Universal and how they handle Benny & Bjorn. It's all down to 'Money, Money, Money' and how much the studios can make out of it. They also know they'll have to 'UP' the paychecks too… NO MERYL, NO MOVIE!
