Bad Lieutenant 2: Check out the clips

rl_badlieuCheck out some clips from Werner Herzog’s new film Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. We also threw in the trailer in case you had no idea there was another movie using the name of Abel Ferrara’s 1992 feature.

In the film, Nicolas Cage plays Terrence McDonagh, a New Orleans Police sergeant, who starts out as a good cop, receiving a medal and a promotion to lieutenant for heroism during Hurricane Katrina. During his heroic act, McDonagh injures his back and later becomes addicted to prescription pain medication.

“He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous.”

Ferrara said in reposne to the new Bad Lieutenant that “As far as remakes go, … I wish these people die in Hell. I hope they’re all in the same streetcar, and it blows up.”

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans arrives in U.S. theaters on November 20, 2009.
