‘The Tourist’ gets another make-over: Angelina Jolie to replace Charlize Theron
American remake of ‘Anthony Zimmer’ casts Angelina Jolie
The Tourist must be competing with The Green Hornet for H-town’s most dysfunctional production. (Green Hornet would still win.) In Charlize Theron’s absence from The Tourist, two-time Oscar winner Angelina Jolie is currently in talks to replace the blonde bombshell in the film, which will focus on an Interpol agent who “manipulates an American tourist in an attempt to entrap her former lover who is an elusive criminal.”
Recently Avatar and Terminator Salvation star Sam Worthington replaced Tom Cruise in the still director-less film. Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) exited the project earlier this month.
The Tourist is a remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer from director Jérôme Salle. It starred Sophie Marceau and Yvan Attal.
Jolie is currently wrapping up production on Salt, a spy-thriller revolving around an accused double-agent who sets out to stop an assassination. The project also had its early casting problems as Jolie replaced Cruise as the lead which sparked a title change from its original title Edwin A. Salt.
