Writers hired for ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′ while Brad Pitt circles Moriarty
Brad Pitt lined up for sequel to ‘Sherlock Holmes’
Sherlock Holmes debuts in theaters on Christmas Day but that hasn’t stopped producers from looking ahead to the future.
Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Paper Man) will begin work on a script for a follow-up to the yet-to-be-released detective story. Though Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and director Guy Ritchie have not yet signed on for a sequel, their return is expected.
Warner Bros. will most likely sign the cast and crew shortly after the film’s release.
Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary characters, the script from Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Lionel Wigram and Simon Kinberg create a heavy emphasis on action and not on a storyline from any of the British author’s stories.
No word if the next film in this budding franchise will revolve around a mystery from the book series.
One thing we do know is that Brad Pitt (last seen in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds) has been in some preliminary discussions with Warner Bros. regarding the portrayal of Holmes’ arch-nemesis Moriarty.
The interwebs have been buzzing over Pitt having a cameo in Sherlock Holmes but it doesn’t appear that this will come to fruition. Though Moriarty will indeed have a small cameo in the film, the villian will merely be seen as a shadowy figure with no descernable identification.
