‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ to open on Christmas Day in the U.S.
Heath Ledger’s last movie will be released in the America
Sony Pictures Classics is set on a Christmas Day release for the much beleaguered Terry Gilliam film (aka Heath Ledger’s last movie), The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a $30M “freakshow” movie that follows the story of an 1000-year-old immortal (Christopher Plummer) who, through a deal with the devil, operates a traveling theater that takes its audience through a magical portal into their imaginations. The Devil comes to collect on his deal and goes after Doctor Parnassus’s daughter. After Ledger’s death, the role of Tony, who assists the Doctor in rescuing his daughter through a series of parallel world adventures, will also be played by Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.
The film will make its North American premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival on September 18th. It will also be released in the UK on October 16th.
