In what is probably tragic news for Bat-fans, Christian Bale is reportedly attached to the upcoming Warner Bros. feature The Last Photograph…and not Batman 3.
The Last Photograph revolves around a photograph which sets a journey two men undertake through war-torn Afghanistan.
The script is written by 300 scribe Kurt Johnstad and is based on an idea by director Zack Snyder.
Director Niels Arden Oplev (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) appears to be the front-runner for the project. Originally, Russian director Sergey Bodrov (Mongol) was rumored to direct.

doesn't mean he's not gonna be in batman 3
I don't think Brad meant EVER. Just not right now.
Bale has to do Batman 3. Nolan+Bale did a fantastic job in the previous two, it would be terrible if Bale didn’t do the next one!
get a new actor for Batman. Bale can retire.
An update of course. Michael Caine has just recently interviewed stating the following from a source(s):
" 'I think they're going to do it in April, that's about as much as I know.' "
Main reasons why Christian Bale may regrettably not reprise his role as batman. The Last Photograph will be released in 2013. Now, will this movie be a blockbuster? It's too soon to tell, but the answer to that is probably, yes. The chances of Christian Bale being cast in two blockbusters at the same time are null to none, taking into consideration that batman 3 will no questions asked, be a blockbuster. Batman 3 deserves the utmost of Bale's attention. A regretful thought to say the least, but Bale probably will not be filming batman 3 as a matter of personal opinion. On past occasions as stated by sources, that if he does not like the script and/or robin is included, then, he will not reprise his role.
Now, I don't know how well the script is, good I'm trusting. Even with an obvious dislike for Robin, Bale may have an interest in the personage of Dick Grayson, considering that Christopher Nolan has said as stated by sources, that he would like to include Dick Grayson in the movie. For simple reasons, I have decided to side with Bale if he wants to drop Batman. Besides, the movies' premises and story-lines deem that it's way too soon to bring in Dick Grayson or Nightwing or Robin.
In Batman 3, the main villains need be Riddler and Black Mask. This makes the most sense. Black Mask is different in that he exclusively seeks Bruce Wayne, as compared to the Riddler, who's desperate to find out the identity of Batman and outsmart him. This pair would be fantastic in the next flick.
People Bale is contractually obligated to appear in three batman movies so as long as the studio wants him he really doesn't have a choice
